Visiting Bell’s soon? Take a look at special hours for November, December
Our Comstock Brewery will be closed Nov. 28-29 for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. It will also be closed Dec. 2-6.
The Bell’s General Store and Eccentric Café will also be closed on Nov. 28 but will be open for normal business hours beginning at 11 a.m. on Nov. 29.
Downtown brewery tours hours for the Thanksgiving weekend will remain the same.
The Cafe and store will also both open at 1 p.m. on Dec. 2.
The Café and store will close early on Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. Both, along with our Comstock Brewery will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 as well.
Bell’s brings home two medals from this year’s Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer
Bell’s Brewery brought home two prestigious medals from this year’s 11th Annual Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer (FoBAB) held in Chicago this past weekend.
Le Bretteur, a specialty beer from Bell’s downtown Kalamazoo brewing team, won a gold medal in the Wild/Brett category.
The category is designated for beers that are driven by Brettanomyces yeast fermentation but are not sour.
The beer was also the judges’ favorite of all gold medal winners across 11 categories and awarded Best of Show.
FoBAB is the largest celebration of wood and barrel aged beer in the U.S. and is highly competitive. Entries are submitted from all over the country.
“Both awards are a tremendous honor and something that we are all very proud of,” said Larry Bell, Bell’s President and Founder.
Le Bretteur is a variation on the blonde biere de garde Le Batteur, part of a trio of beers that make up Bell’s Jazz Series.
The wort was fermented in French Oak Chardonnay barrels.
First look: Oberon and Two Hearted cans, coming in April
Two Hearted Ale and Oberon Ale will debut in cans beginning in late April, 2014.
They will be available to purchase in 16-ounce four-packs in all markets we currently distribute to.
Both designs will feature familiar images, but the Two Hearted can design will also bring back a local Kalamazoo artist’s illustration from a previously retired label first introduced in the late 1990s.
Future can offerings will include our seasonal lineup ‑ Best Brown Ale, Winter White Ale and Smitten Golden Rye Ale to start.
“This new option will allow our fans to take our beer to places where glass is not allowed. It opens up a lot of new opportunities to enjoy Bell’s beer and that’s a win for everyone,” said Laura Bell, Bell’s Vice President.
“We are all very excited about this,” she added.
Our new canning line is part of our most recent expansion which also includes the addition of twelve 800-barrel fermenters to our Comstock Brewery. The filler will have the capacity to fill 500 cans a minute and is from KHS USA Inc. located just outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The cans are produced by Denver-based Ball Corporation.
