Before it was Bell's, it was a service station
Before it was a brewery, a General Store or Bell's Eccentric Cafe, the building at 355 E. Kalamazoo Ave., in downtown Kalamazoo, was a plumbing supply warehouse.
In 1944, it was home to Cities Service Station.
The streets were paved with brick and the railroad cut through what is now a parking lot and the Bell's Beer Garden. The photo below (shown with a current photograph) was taken by Ward Morgan (1907-1997) and is shared here courtesy of Western Michigan University's Archives and Regional History Collection.
