“For years, “home” was a place The Ragbirds rarely visited. The band’s music — a genre-bending hybrid of indie-pop melodies, global rhythms and songwriting styles influenced from all over the world — was as broad as their audience, which stretched from the group’s hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the shores of Osaka, Japan (where they scored a Number One pop hit with the song “Book of Matches”). Show by show, in venues ranging from rock clubs and performing arts centers to festivals encompassing everything from bluegrass to electronica, the Ragbirds developed a well-deserved reputation as one of the most dynamic, high-spirited live bands in roots music.

Brett Dennen wsg Esme Patterson ($20adv/$25dos)
OUTDOOR SHOW - BELL'S BEER GARDEN - RAIN OR SHINE As common and simple as it is, "por favor" is such an evocative expression. From Spanish, it translates to "please," a word that suggests a need for something, a desire to make a change. "Por favor' was something I kept saying every day in the studio, and I got the other musicians saying it," says Brett Dennen. "We were goofing around, and Dave Cobb, my producer, said it should be the title of my new record. I laughed it off at first, but then I really thought about it." "When you say please, you're asking something to come into your life," Dennen adds. "It might mean that you're weak and need something to make you strong. But you're admitting to some sort of weakness or some form of humility." That notion is at the heart of Por Favor, Dennen's intimate and revealing new album that Elektra Records will release on May 20. Produced by Cobb, fresh from his Grammywinning work with Chris Stapleton and Jason Isbell, the record strips Dennen to his core as a songwriter with nothing to hide.

Aug 11, 2016 at Doors: 8pm, Show: 9pm
The Sweetwater Warblers wsg Anna Ash ($15)
Imagine yourself as a bird in flight floating on the waves of a gentle fall breeze. Each sweep and plunge has the power to shake you and somehow still cradles you like the hum of a mother’s lullaby or the high of a southern gospel choir. This dynamic between fierce, tender and strikingly familiar is what you can expect from the highly anticipated ensemble of these three front women and songbirds of the Earthwork Music Collective. Powerful singers and songwriters in their own bands, Rachael Davis (Shout Sister Shout, The Rachael Davis Band), Lindsay Lou (Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys, Time & Luck) and May Erlewine (Seth & May, May Erlewine & The Moonlighters) came together upon a festival organizer’s request for the first time as The Sweet Water Warblers in 2014 at the Hoxeyville Music Festival in Northern Michigan. After a year of touring, writing and releasing records independently, they're reuniting with a handful of cowritten and hand selected songs for an intimate show that they’re bringing to the lower peninsula’s best acoustic music venues.

The Verve Pipe ($20adv/$24dos)
With sales of more than a million albums worldwide, success on radio, TV and film, and sold-out concert dates throughout the world, The Verve Pipe, formed in Michigan in the early 90’s, is best recognized for their radio hits ‘Photograph,’ ‘Hero,’ ‘Happiness Is,’ ‘Never Let You Down’ and the #1 single, ‘The Freshmen.’ In 2014, The Verve Pipe released their first rock album in over 13 years with Overboard, a collection of ten new songs including ‘Crash Landing’, ‘Hit and Run,’ and the haunting title track ‘Overboard.’ This long incubating project brought a renewed energy and focus to this self-produced album that resulted in their most inspired writing and recording to date. The Verve Pipe continue to perform throughout the U.S., including appearances at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits Festival, Hangout Music Festival and SummerStage in Central Park and many more.
