Did a hip Gen Alpha teen call your outfit boring? 😱 Nothing to fear – the Oberon sun is here to bring your wardrobe from sad to fab with this fun visible mending technique. 🧵👖☀️ Here’s what you’ll need:
- A needle
- Some thread
- Pins
- Scissors (ideally thread and fabric scissors)
- A fabric patch
- A fabric marker or white colored pencil
- A printed Oberon outline (for the stencil)
- Optional: Sashico stencils for additional adornments
- Optional: Thimble (to protect your fingers)
1. Cut a fabric patch to your desired size. Iron the fabric, if needed.
2. Print and cut your Oberon sun stencil to your desired size.
3. Place the stencil on your patch and pin in place. Use a fabric marker or white colored pencil to outline the stencil onto the fabric patch.
4. Remove the pinned paper and cut the sun design out of your fabric.
5. Pin your cut-out sun patch to your jeans/jacket/garment of choice! Run a basting stitch along the border of the patch to hold it in place.
6. Take your needle and thread and whip stitch around your sun. Start your stitch on the outside of the patch and inward, for a smooth finish.
7. Continue stitching around the entire patch. Be sure to secure the final stitch with a knot, so your patch will stay securely attached.
*Optional Finishing Touch* Use classic Sashiko stencils to adorn your Oberon sun patch with additional accent patterns, and to further secure your patch to your garment.
Wear and enjoy! Here’s additional creative inspo to keep you inspired, as you #ReachForTheSun.
